Old Dominion vs. Georgia Southern: Prediction, Where to Watch

Old Dominion (7–3, 4–2 Sun Belt) visits Georgia Southern (5–5, 3–3 Sun Belt) this afternoon for a Week 13 Sun Belt matchup that pairs one of the league’s most efficient rushing teams against one of its most vulnerable defenses.
Old Dominion enters after a dominant 33–0 win over Troy, powered by quarterback Colton Joseph’s versatility — 147 yards passing, a touchdown, and 90 rushing yards with two scores.
The Monarchs average 457.0 yards per game (20th in FBS) behind a top-15 rushing attack at 216.5 yards per game. Joseph’s 713 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns set the tone, while Tre’ Brown III leads the receiving corps with 735 yards.
Defensively, ODU gives up just 21.1 points per game and ranks 9th nationally in red-zone defense, allowing opponents to score only 71.9% of the time. Their weakness is time of possession — 27:00 per game (130th in FBS) — but their efficiency on both sides has compensated. They also hold opponents to 344.5 yards per game and defend the pass well (25th nationally).
Georgia Southern, coming off a 45–40 shootout win over Coastal Carolina, remains explosive offensively but inconsistent defensively. JC French threw for 264 yards, and OJ Arnold erupted for 267 rushing yards and three total touchdowns last week, highlighting an offense that averages 403.5 yards and 30.0 points per game.
Camden Brown brings big-play capability with 872 yards and 12 touchdowns. But the Eagles’ defense continues to be a major liability: they allow 465.9 yards per game (134th), including 220.8 rushing yards (135th), and give up 34.6 points per game (128th).
They also sit 133rd nationally in defensive third-down percentage at 47.4%, a problematic matchup against an ODU offense that leans heavily on staying on schedule.
Both teams close out the regular season next Friday — Georgia Southern at Marshall and Old Dominion at home against Georgia State — but today’s matchup is shaped by ODU’s elite ground game against a Georgia Southern defense that has struggled to stop anyone on the ground.
Prediction
Old Dominion’s run game and defensive consistency give them a clear advantage, while Georgia Southern’s defensive vulnerabilities continue to be a major concern.
Projected Final Score: Old Dominion 28, Georgia Southern 21
