Altrincham Christmas Lights Switch-On 2025: Man Utd and Coronation Street stars revealed for Neon Noel event
Altrincham’s festive season is set to kick off in spectacular style next Saturday as two major stars switch on the town’s Christmas lights.
Sam Aston, fresh from his 2025 Dancing on Ice victory and best known for his long-running role as Chesney in Coronation Street, will join Manchester United Premier League footballer Matheus Cunha for the big moment.
Aston and his skating partner Molly Lanaghan triumphed in March after a faultless performance in the final of the popular ITV series.
And Cunha has quickly established himself as an Old Trafford hero after a £62.5million move from Wolves this summer.
The duo will officially launch Altrincham’s “Neon Noel” celebration, bringing a touch of sparkle to the town centre.

Location: Regent Road and George Street, Altrincham town centre

Family-friendly entertainment throughout the day
The free, family-friendly event will transform the town centre into a vibrant celebration of all things festive.
The main stage on Regent Road will host a packed programme of live entertainment, with excellent viewing spots along George Street.
Dancing on Ice champion Sam Aston will also be turning on the lights
Happy Radio will present the afternoon’s festivities, featuring an eclectic mix of performances.
Musical Acts
Luzahnn of Livin’ Joy headlines with iconic 90s dance anthems, as well as a live performance from local favourites The Randalls Band from Randalls Jewellers. There will also be festive performances from Little Belters, The Music Place Choir, Altrincham Garrick Show Choir and Sale and Altrincham Musical Theatre.
Family Entertainment
Children’s favourites Bluey and Stitch will make appearances, with Stitch hosting a special Christmas disco. Cardwell Theatre School will get the crowd moving with an interactive dance session. And of course, Santa himself will be making a special appearance for the switch-on moment.

Get into the neon spirit with face painting at Revive Hair and Beauty, courtesy of Funky Faces. Glitter or neon designs are available for £3 (cash only).

“Neon Noel is a fantastic way to start the festive season in Altrincham. We’re encouraging everyone to come along, grab their glow sticks, dress up in bright colours and enjoy an afternoon of music, fun and community spirit.
“Make a day of it – enjoy some early Christmas shopping, lunch in one of Altrincham’s cafés or restaurants, then stay for the big switch-on celebration, and continue your evening in the town.”
Neon Noel is being organised by Altrincham BID, the team behind Visit Altrincham, in partnership with Happy Radio.
