UFC Qatar video: Volkan Oezdemir blitzes Alonzo Menifield with punches for jaw-dropping knockout

Volkan Oezdemir lived up to his nickname, because he gave Alonzo Menifield no time to recover before delivering a highlight reel knockout in the first round at UFC Qatar.
There was no holding back as Oezdemir came after Menifield right away, using his reach advantage to unload with quick, blinding combinations. After backing Menifield up, Oezdemir leapt into a knee strike that landed clean and that spelled the beginning of the end.
Oezdemir just uncorked a series of brutal punches capped off a by a huge left hand that put Menifield down for the final time. The end came at just 1:27 in the opening round.
“I wanted to actually put a lot of shots,” Oezdemir said about his win. “Now I wanted to throw some numbers. The combo never had to stop and this is what happened.
“My goal is the belt. I always want to reach the top. Now I want to go back to the top five, build my way up there and get a shot at the belt.”
A perennial contender at 205 pounds, Oezdemir criticized his own performance against Carlos Ulberg when he was only throwing a single strike and not putting together many combinations.
That obviously changed on Saturday as he completely overwhelmed Menifield with his blistering barrage of strikes. After the knee landed and the damage was done, Oezdemir effectively kept Menifield standing with his rapid-fire punches until he finally connected with the left hand that ended the fight.
Oezdemir moves to 3-1 in his past four fights while proving he’s still a force to be reckoned with in the light heavyweight division.
