‘Not the best weekend outlook’: Rain to put an end to Sydney’s sunny spell

The sunny skies enjoyed by Sydneysiders in recent days are set to be replaced by wet weather, as incoming showers look to disrupt weekend plans.
The city is expected to see one more clear day before conditions change on Thursday, when showers will likely begin to dampen much of eastern New South Wales.
Examining the rest of the week’s weather forecast, Sky News Weather Meteorologist Marina Neuman said rainy skies could stretch across the NSW coast.
“So unfortunately, not the best weekend outlook as our first trough moves across the centre, then one off the coast, allowing that onshore flow, seeing storms across the interior, wet weather from Sydney to Newcastle,” she said.
Wet weather is likely to continue targeting the Sydney and Newcastle coastlines on Saturday before it reaches inland areas like Tamworth, Dubbo and Orange, producing potential storms.
“This is going to produce some high totals, even beginning to stretch into Queensland overnight Saturday into Sunday. So very wet weather underway into the weekend,” Neuman said.
Some areas of NSW are expected to record 7-day rainfall totals of about 50 millimetres.
“So unfortunately parents, kids’ sports just might be getting cancelled. Certainly not the beach weekend that we are hoping for,” Neuman said.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecast a sunny Wednesday for Sydney, with a maximum temperature of 29 degrees.
However, a medium chance of showers is forecast for the city on Thursday, as well as a potential thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening.
There was a high chance of showers in Sydney on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the chance for a thunderstorm on Sunday, according the BOM’s forecast.
Similarly in Newcastle, Wednesday is expected to be a fine day, with a high of 29 degrees, before rain disrupts sunny conditions.
The BOM forecast a potential thunderstorm in Newcastle on Thursday, with a medium chance of showers in the afternoon and evening.
A high chance of showers was forecast for the remainder of the week in the city.
