Tom Read Wilson: his partner status, age, background and what he’s famous for

“Everything you say sounds so expensive,” Aitch told Tom Read Wilson in tonight’s episode of I’m a Celebrity. There’s no denying it: the boy’s got posh vowels and consonants you could split diamonds with.

He also styled out the classic jungle problem of having a snake invade your pants with aplomb (and a beautiful tune). In short, he’s a delight, and to many viewers a complete novelty, if they’re not fans of Celebs Go Dating. But there’s far more to Tom than steering celebrities through the restaurant of love.

This isn’t Tom’s first rodeo on TV. He is a singer, actor and TV personality, with a CV that marks him out as someone very different, in the best possible way.

Does Tom Read Wilson have a partner?

No: Tom, who is openly gay, is currently single and has previously admitted that he likes his own company and doesn’t feel in a rush to meet a partner, despite his job as a professional matchmaker. He has, however, revealed he would like to have children of his own one day.

He told OK!: “If someone came into my life, it would be a beloved addition. Most days I feel like a moist madeira sponge that doesn’t really require icing. But if there were icing, it wouldn’t go amiss. I’m so lucky I’ve got three godchildren, three nephews… but what I really crave is to have my own children one day.”

How old is Tom Read Wilson?

He was born on 12 November 1986, which makes him 39 years old. And remarkably well preserved with it.

Is Tom Read Wilson’s accent real?

He’s from Berkshire, England, which goes some way to explaining his cut-glass accent. The jungle campmate grew up on a prestigious school campus because of his father’s job as teacher. (His father, grandfather and great-grandfather all taught at Bradfield College. His mum was a pupil. Best not enquire too closely – though she was 18 when she met his father, who was 34.) He is still very close to both his mum and dad, who have now separated.

Tom credits his father with his love of Shakespeare and fancy vocabulary, admitting that his dad inspired him to be fascinated by the history and structure of words from a very early age.

It also won’t surprise anyone to learn Tom is also an author. He’s published not one, but three books – and they’re all about his favourite subject: words! Every Word Tells A Story was published in 2022, along with On The Tip of my Tongue: The Perfect Word For Every Life Moment in the same year. His most recent book, Wonderful Words That Tell A Tale, was published last year.

What is Tom Read Wilson famous for?

Tom’s no stranger to the world of TV, having appeared on numerous shows, including Celebrity Juice, 8 out of 10 Cats, Loose Women, The Wheel, Love Island: Aftersun, Strictly: It Takes Two, Britain’s Got More Talent and Richard Osman’s House of Games.

In 2020 Tom won Celebrity Mastermind, impressing everyone with his knowledge of My Fair Lady and in 2024 he presented Channel 5 series The Taste Test Restaurant. Phew!

Having trained at the Royal Academy of Music, Tom is no stranger to treading the boards. He’s appeared in several stage shows, including playing Squidward in the West End run of The Spongebob Squarepants Musical in 2023, a role he shared with Gareth Gates.

He is most famous, of course, for being the celebrity coordinator on Celebs Go Dating, having joined the show as receptionist in 2016.

When was Tom Read Wilson on The Voice?

Tom showcased his amazing singing skills on the fifth series of The Voice UK back in 2016.

He performed Johnny Mercer’s ‘Accentuate the Positive’ for Will.i.am, Boy George, Paloma Faith and Ricky Wilson. Sadly for Tom, none of the judges turned their chairs round for him. But his positive attitude to life means he doesn’t regret his time on the show one bit, in fact he credits it for kickstarting his TV career.

Speaking of being on The Voice UK, Tom told OK!: “I was a terrible flop! None of the judges turned around, but in a way it was the show’s generosity to me that resulted in me getting the job on Celebs Go Dating the same year. So I have to thank The Voice for everything it did for me.”

With camp dynamics already experiencing a seismic shift since Tom arrived in I’m a Celebrity, it seems he has since found his place as the jungle’s resident mood booster. Will it be enough to win him votes and see him crowned King of the Jungle?

I’m a Celebrity airs on ITV1 and ITVX nightly from 9pm
