‘F1’ Director On Status Of Sequel: “I Would Love To Be Able To Tell Another Chapter In That Story”
Is an F1 sequel in the works? F1 director Joseph Kosinski told Deadline that he would love to see it happen.
When asked by Deadline if we might be seeing Brad Pitt’s Sonny Hayes take one more rev around the track, Kosinski acknowledged he and producers have begun talking about it. “I personally would love to see what other adventures Sonny Hayes has in his future,” Kosinski said during Contenders Film Los Angeles Saturday. “I’d love to see what’s happened with the APXGP team and Joshua Pearce, and see how his career goes, so I would love to be able to tell another chapter in that story and it’s something we just started kinda dreaming about and it’s fun to be in this stage of imagining what that might be.”
In F1, Pitt’s Sonny Hayes, a renowned Formula 1 driver during the 1990s, has an on-track accident that nearly ends his career. Three decades later, he’s a racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling team on the verge of collapse. Cervantes convinces Sonny to take one last shot at saving the team and becoming the best in the world. The only things holding him back are memories of the past and his teammate Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).
The film also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.
The Apple film F1, distributed by Warner Bros., was a critical and box office success, bringing in $631 million worldwide.
