IND vs SA: Jadeja BAFFLED As Muthusamy Saved By Faintest Of Spikes

Team India had a frustrating start to the second day’s play in Guwahati as despite having South Africa 247/6 at the start of the day, they were unable to pick a single wicket in the entirety of the first session.

Senuran Muthusamy (25*) and Kyle Verreynne (1*) began the day for the Proteas and they were almost completely untroubled for the entirety of the first session as they batted 29.1 overs without losing a wicket, showing incredible patience and application on a rather flat Guwahati surface.

However, there was a moment in the session they thought they had the prized scalp of the set Muthusamy after the left-hander had been adjudged LBW off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja.

On the 105th over of the first innings, Muthusamy tried sweeping Jadeja across the line and got hit on the pads, and was adjudged out instantly. He did not go up immediately but after a small consultation with his batting partner, the left-hander sent it upstairs.

India were confident that they had their man, especially considering Muthusamy did not go up immediately, but ultra-edge showed the faintest of murmurs as the ball passed the batter’s glove. Now, the murmur was so faint that it could easily have been overlooked by the umpire, but the third umpire Chris Gaffaney felt that there was enough disturbance to overturn the decision, particularly with the ball passing so close to the glove.

The decision was eventually overturned, and that absolutely baffled the bowler Jadeja, who was almost puzzled and shocked at the decision going the South African batter’s way.
