Leeds vs Aston Villa preview
Aston Villa failed to score a Premier League goal until the 67th minute of their fifth match of the season but they go into Sunday’s clash with Leeds in excellent form.
Villa have won eight of their ten games in all competitions since September’s 1-1 draw away to ten-man Sunderland and they brushed aside Bournemouth 4-0 in their most recent league fixture.
Unai Emery’s men need to improve their away record if they are to challenge for European qualification.
The Europa League favourites lost 2-1 at Go Ahead Eagles on matchday three and were beaten 2-0 by troubled Liverpool in their last league trip.
Poor finishing has hampered Villa this season and Leeds have had the same problem on their return to the top flight.
Both clubs are creating plenty of chances, though, and Villa look a nice price to win with both teams scoring at Elland Road.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke is under pressure after a 3-0 defeat at Brighton and a 3-1 loss at Nottingham Forest so a positive result at home is vital.
Farke’s poor Premier League record came under scrutiny in the summer but Leeds opted against sacking the Championship-winning manager.
They have competed well at home, beating Everton and West Ham, drawing 0-0 with Newcastle and conceding a late equaliser against Bournemouth.
Leeds were unfortunate to lose 2-1 against Tottenham in October but their defence can expect a tricky afternoon against Villa, whose only confirmed absentee is defender Tyrone Mings.
Striker Ollie Watkins should be fresh after missing out on England’s latest squad while John McGinn is buzzing after Scotland’s dramatic World Cup qualifying win over Denmark.
Youri Tielemans’ return to fitness adds class to the Villa midfield and Emery has a host of attacking options including Morgan Rogers, Emi Buendia, Donyell Malen, Evann Guessand and Jadon Sancho.
Welsh warrior Ampadu may be penalised
Ethan Ampadu was booked for a rash tackle late on in Wales’s World Cup qualifying win against Liechtenstein, meaning he was suspended for the 7-1 rout of North Macedonia.
The Leeds midfielder Ampadu has also had disciplinary problems at club level and he should be backed to collect a fourth card in his last seven league games.
Back Buendia to have another good day
Emi Buendia has scored in four of his last eight appearances for Villa, earning a recall from Argentina’s World Cup-winning coach Lionel Scaloni.
Buendia needs to maintain his recent standards given the competition for places in Villa’s frontline and he looks a tasty each-way price to open the scoring.
Leeds vs Aston Villa Bet Builder
A goal to be scored in both halves
Five of Aston Villa’s last six Premier League games featured a goal in both halves, as did Leeds’s last three home fixtures against Bournemouth, Tottenham and West Ham.
Morgan Rogers to have two or more shots
The England international has impressed in Villa’s last two away games, scoring at Tottenham and hitting the post with one of his three attempts at Liverpool.
Boubacar Kamara to be shown a card
Villa’s midfield enforcer should have plenty of work to do at Elland Road and he has been booked in three of his first eight league starts this season.
Pays out at 12-1 with Paddy Power
