Dumpster Fire (Literally) Closes NJ Mall, Officials Say

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A fire in a dumpster forced the evacuation of the American Dream complex on Thursday, a spokesperson confirmed.

The fire broke out on a loading dock before opening hours at the shopping/entertainment destination, said Gregg Schwartz.

Workers at the site, located on Route 3 in East Rutherford, were evacuated out of an abundance of caution, he said.

There were no injuries, and the fire was not considered suspicious, he confirmed.

The complex was cleared to reopen around 9:30 a.m.. The mall’s normal operating hours on Thursday are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for most stores, although holiday hours may differ.
