Manager tipped to replace Daniel Farke at Leeds United wins first game in two months

One of the managers tipped to replace Daniel Farke at Leeds United has just won their first game in two months, ending a difficult run of form.

Daniel Farke needs to coax an improvement out of his Leeds United team as they enter the busy festive period, having overseen an alarming downturn in results.

Results elsewhere mean that they head into their crucial fixture against Aston Villa in the bottom three for the first time this season, as their Premier League rivals continue to improve.

Farke was reportedly given five games to save his job at Leeds before the defeat against Nottingham Forest. As a result, he cannot afford to drop points when the Villans travel to Elland Road.

Now, one of the candidates tipped to replace Farke as Leeds manager has ended his side’s worrying run of form at the worst possible time for the under-fire German.

Former Leeds assistant Carlos Corberan is among the bookies’ favourites to succeed Farke at Elland Road, having previously impressed in the Championship before moving to La Liga.

However, Corberan has been under pressure with Los Ches, having overseen an alarming downturn in form, thanks partly to an injury crisis in his squad, which ruled out on-loan Leeds winger Largie Ramazani.

However, a battling 1-1 draw before the international break suggested Corberan was beginning to turn things around.

Now, he has ended his side’s long run without a victory in La Liga by claiming a 1-0 win over Levante, which was settled by a 79th-minute goal from Hugo Duro.

Carlos Corberan praises his Valencia side after La Liga win

Corberan recently reaffirmed his commitment to Valencia after their poor run of form, and he was full of praise for his side, as they moved up to 15th with a win, leapfrogging Mateo Joseph’s Mallorca.

Speaking via Marca after the game, Corberan praised his side for their resilience, as they ground out a much-needed victory.

Daniel Farke’s interview with Sky Sports on Leeds United pressure

Corberan said: “The team understood the game from the start. I wasn’t expecting Levante’s approach, which is why Pepelu’s position differed from the previous week.

It was difficult to break down their defensive block; they were chasing Diego and Danjuma’s runs. I can’t single out just one half because the team worked hard throughout the game.

“In the second half, we maintained the same level of performance we showed in the first.”
