Jameis Winston Sends Bold Message After Giants’ Last-Minute QB Decision

The New York Giants will turn to veteran quarterback Jameis Winston once again in Week 12 as they take on the Detroit Lions.

Winston turned heads with his comments following the news that he would start over Week 1 starter Russell Wilson again, and he drew more attention with some later remarks. Winston was on the Giants’ bench as QB3 up until last week.

However, injuries to rookie star Jaxson Dart, who replaced Wilson after an ineffective stint for the 10-time Pro Bowler to begin the season, opened the door for the former No. 1 overall pick in 2015.

The Giants lost their first start with Winston at the helm — a home date against the Green Bay Packers in Week 11, and they face another stiff test in the Lions in Week 12. Winston has been a polarizing player, but his comments reflect a big reason why he has lasted as long as he has in the NFL.

Winston, 31, completed 65.5% of his passes for 201 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception against the Packers. He said he “just found out” on Friday afternoon that he would be QB1 for the Giants against the Packers.

“It doesn’t change for me,” Winston told reporters on Friday. “I love this. I’m so grateful to wear this uniform, do my job, man. So, it don’t – nothing really changes for me. Maybe more texts to the receivers, just in terms of a communication standpoint. But outside of that, in terms of studying, it’s the same every week.”

Winston joked about repeating different versions of that same answer during the session. Winston stated “it’s the life of an NFL quarterback” to be ready even when they do not expect to play, just in case.

The Lions enter this contest against the 2-9 Giants off a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but are still 6-4 on the campaign.
