Shevchenko reveals why the “Derby della Madonnina” has more weight for Milan than for Inter

Andriy Shevchenko has explained why Sunday night’s derby at the San Siro means more to his former team, Milan, than to current Serie A leaders, Inter.
On the eve of the first clash of the 2025-26 season between the two city giants, the Ukrainian legend has analyzed the momentum of the two teams and the pressure that falls most on the Rossoneri.
Inter hosts Milan on Sunday evening, entering the duel as the leader of the table with 24 points, while Milan, with 22 points, has the opportunity to surpass its eternal rival if it emerges victorious from “San Siro”.
Speaking to “La Repubblica”, Shevchenko stressed that for Milan, the match has more importance due to the current fragility of the team.
“Both teams are in a good moment. However, getting a result is more important for Milan, who still look a little more fragile than the Nerazzurri. They need to continue growing. A defeat could stop this process.”
On the other hand, he appreciates the way Inter has transformed since the start of the season.
“They are a different team today. You have to turn the page as soon as the season ends, start from scratch. The Nerazzurri team has been kept almost intact, they have even been reinforced. Meanwhile, Chivu seems to me like a coach with good football vision. He has the right ideas. They are one of the favorites for the title.”
As for Milan, he says this season has been a period of rebuilding and stabilization.
“They had to find that solidity again, rebuild after the difficulties of last season. You also have to take into account the large number of new players who came in the summer. Allegri is managing them well, they shouldn’t take it for granted.
‘Max is an experienced coach with clear characteristics. He is a serious man, he knows how to manage players. He has a proven style of play. He knows well what you are getting into when you hire him. He is meeting expectations’.
Asked about the player who has impressed him the most this season, Shevchenko mentioned a big name.
“Modric is impressing me, he’s making the difference. But as a team, Milan still has steps to take to be at Inter’s level.”Telegraph
