Alex Scott endured a disastrous date with Coronation Street actor Sam Robertson before ultimately finding happiness with Jess Glynne. The former Arsenal footballer discussed her romantic history while appearing on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! alongside other stars.
Now in a relationship with singer Glynne, Scott had spent years keeping her personal life firmly out of the spotlight. One moment that stood out was her date with Corrie’s Robertson, when the two shared a candlelit meal in London back in 2020.
While the evening itself went smoothly, the ex-footballer was far from pleased with the unwanted publicity that followed the intimate occasion. Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous magazine, she said: “I never seem to have a lot of luck on dates. My one date in ages was going out with Sam [Robertson], who is lovely.
“The next morning, our pictures were all over the press because someone in the restaurant had taken a photo. It wasn’t exactly a great start!”
Prior to this brief romance with Robertson, the 41-year-old had been in a secret eight-year relationship with former team-mate Kelly Smith, who also represented Arsenal and England alongside the ex-right back.

Speaking to us in 2022 during the launch of her book, How (Not) To Be Strong, Scott said: “I’m writing this book and I want to tell everything. I thought I’d be cheating you all if I didn’t put that in there.
“For me, it’s like that first love story. I fell madly and deeply in love. Yes, there’s that heartbreak and those things, but it’s a huge part of my life, and I wouldn’t go back and change that. Because that feeling of love and that excitement and what it gives you, it needed to be in there.”
Glynne will watch from afar as Scott tackles the jungle challenge, though their own romance hasn’t been without its difficulties. The former right back opened up to The Times in 2024 about how being raised by her father, Tony, shaped her adult relationships.

She said: “We weren’t allowed to express emotion. Dad didn’t allow us to hug each other or say ‘I love you’. It had a huge impact on us all. To this day, if I want to show people love, I’ll do it by taking them out to dinner and paying.
“I remember one of the first times Jess hugged me. I was like… [makes a rigid expression]. She was like, ‘Are you not going to put your arms around me?’ But I didn’t know how to do that. We laugh about it to this day.”
Scott’s father Tony has repeatedly rejected these suggestions of a difficult childhood. He said: “Perhaps she is judging me by today’s standards, I don’t know.
“Parents were a lot tougher back then. But I was never violent, that’s just not me. I never beat Alex or anyone else in the family or did anything like that.”
