Seamus Power grabs card lifeline with super 65 on moving day in RSM Classic

The West Waterford man is 128th in the FedExCup Fall standings, with only the top 100 on Sunday night fully exempt next season.
Even if Power fails to claim the three-way tie for third place he needs to break into the top 100, he can still enter the final stage of the Q-School at TPC Sawgrass next month and improve his status by winning one of five PGA Tour cards.
But that may not be necessary after his performance on moving day at Sea Island left him tied for seventh on 15 under.
While Finland’s Sami Valimaki shot 65 to lead by two shots on 19 under from Michael Thorbjornsen and Patrick Rodgers, Power is just one shot behind fourth-placed Zak Blair, Johnny Keefer and Andrew Novak.
He got off to a slow start on the Seaside Course, dropping an early shot at the fourth, but he fought back brilliantly by playing his last 14 holes in six under.
After wedging to four feet and brushing in the putt at the fifth, he eagled the 581-yard seventh from 33 feet, then saved par from six feet at the 10th before reeling off a hat-trick of birdies from the 14th.
As a result, he ended the day projected to move up to 113th in the FedExCup Fall standings.
At the LPGA Tour’s $11 million CME Group Tour Championship in Florida, Leona Maguire made four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in a third round 72.
She goes into the final round ranked 59th in the 60-strong field on one over as Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul, the world number one, shot 64 to lead by six shots from compatriot Pajaree Anannarukarn and American Nelly Korda on 22 under.
On the Asian Tour, Spain’s Josele Ballester won the PIF Saudi International in just his 10th professional start.
He carded a six-under-par 65 to clinch a three-shot victory on 22 under from American Caleb Surratt, who shot a 69, at Riyadh Golf Club.
South Africa’s Dean Burmester was third and England’s Richard Bland fourth as American Anthony Kim claimed fifth place for his best result since returning to the game after a 12-year break.
In what was the final event of the season on The International Series, Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent wrapped up The International Series Rankings and a return to the LIV Golf League next year.
He will be joined by Japan’s Yosuke Asaji, who held on to second place despite missing the cut.
Tom McKibbin shot 69 to tie for 20th on 11 under while Graeme McDowell was a shot further back in joint 27th after a 68.
In the Sunshine Tour’s Vodacom Origins of Golf Final, The K Club’s Liam Grehan goes into the final round just three shots off the lead.
Two over after eight holes at Pezula Golf Estate, he birdied the ninth, 10th and 12th and eagled the 18th to shoot a three under 69.
That left them tied for sixth on 15 under behind South Africans Albert Venter (64) and Christiaan Burke (69), who lead by a shot from Casey Jarvis on 18 under.
Hermitage’s Rowan Lester shot 76 to fall back to 44th on seven under.
