Garner, who grew up in Charleston and graduated from George Washington High School, was at Clay County High School, Clay Elementary and New River Primary School in Oak Hill.
A news release from Clay County Schools said Garner, 53, joined high school students and volunteers, including representatives from the Mountaineer Food Bank and others, to help package meals for the Extra-Mile food delivery program.
Her visit to Clay Elementary included taking part in a literacy lesson with several kindergarten students as part of the Save the Children In-School Literature program at the school.
There was also a roundtable discussion at the school about the success of the program.
The Friday afternoon visit to New River Primary in Fayette County included meetings with faculty and staff.
