Police have confirmed that officers received a report of malicious communications from a school in North Tyneside on Sunday. Kings Priory School in Tynemouth notified parents that it would be closed on Monday through the school’s ParentMail channel last night.

The school said the closure was a precautionary measure and advised parents to await further updates, and said details would be shared when appropriate. Northumbria Police has confirmed that officers attended the site on Sunday, and established there is “no credible threat” to the school, staff, or pupils.

An email sent to parents from Principal Philip Sanderson on Sunday evening read: “It is with deep regret, I write to you now to say that due to a potential critical threat, Kings Priory School will need to be closed on Monday, November 24 2025. Of course, I will share when appropriate the details of the situation.

“I wholly understand the inconvenience this will cause and I will be in touch as soon as possible.”

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Just after 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday), we received a report of malicious communications directed towards at a secondary school in North Tyneside. Officers attended immediately to carry out enquiries and established there to be no credible threat to the school, its pupils or staff.”

Coun Lewis Bartoli, deputy leader of the North Tyneside Conservative Group and councillor for Tynemouth, said: “I’d ask people not to speculate or put any rumours out.

“Whilst the language is concerning, it might not be something to worry about. Let’s wait until we know all the facts.”
