Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez, beloved personalities from the popular dance competition Strictly Come Dancing, have recently opened up about a relatable domestic issue concerning the temperature of their bedroom. Since their meeting on the show, the couple has faced some friction, particularly stemming from Gemma’s biohacking practices, which have significantly warmed their shared sleeping space.
Gemma, 41, has incorporated various biohacking techniques into her daily routine, one of which includes a sauna blanket that raises the room temperature to approximately 26°C. This is notably higher than Gorka’s ideal sleeping environment, which hovers between 18 to 21°C. As a result of these differing preferences, the couple has found themselves contemplating alternative sleeping arrangements to ensure both can rest comfortably.
During an episode of their podcast, Lost in Translation, Gorka shared his struggles regarding the excessive heat generated by Gemma’s practices. He detailed elements of his nighttime routine, which includes using blue light-blocking glasses and adjusting the lighting to suit Gemma’s preferences. “I’m a person who doesn’t like to sleep in a hot room,” Gorka explained, emphasizing that the sauna blanket adds to his discomfort, particularly during the night.
In light of Gorka’s concerns, Gemma took a lighthearted approach to the issue. Recognizing the disruption her sauna blanket can cause, she proposed a compromise: conducting her biohacking sessions in a spare room going forward. This solution allows for both to maintain their sleeping comfort without entirely sacrificing their individual practices.

The couple’s dynamic has been further strengthened by their journey together on Strictly Come Dancing, where they first met in 2017. Despite not being partnered together—Gemma reached the finals with Aljaz Skorjanec while Gorka competed alongside singer Alexandra Burke—their bond blossomed beyond the competition. They now share two children, Mia and Thiago, making their relationship a fusion of partnership in both parenting and performance.
