Gorka Marquez Becomes First Dancer to Feature on Men’s Health Magazine Cover

Gorka Marquez, a prominent figure from “Strictly Come Dancing,” shared thrilling news during an appearance on ITV’s “This Morning.” Accompanied by his partner Gemma Atkinson, Gorka celebrated a significant career milestone: he has become the first dancer to grace the cover of “Men’s Health” magazine. The announcement was met with enthusiasm from presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, who acknowledged the importance of this achievement.

Ben highlighted the rarity of such an honor, stating, “They don’t just let anyone on the cover.” Gemma further emphasized Gorka’s groundbreaking role, noting, “He’s the first dancer on it ever.” This feature aims to shed light on the fitness and athleticism of dancers, a sentiment Gorka reinforced during his discussions. He remarked, “I can’t believe it. That’s one of the reasons why I wanted to do it, to show everybody, of course, we are performers but we are also athletes.”

Gorka elaborated on the physical demands faced by professional dancers, comparing their rigorous routines to those of athletes in other sports. He pointed out, “If you ask a footballer to play one football game every day, they wouldn’t be able to do it. When we go on tour, we do two shows of two hours every day and we struggle.” His comments highlighted the intense dedication and training required to excel in dance.

Gemma also shared insights into Gorka’s consistent fitness routine, mentioning that his readiness for the magazine photoshoot was seamless. “He is always on it,” she said, underscoring that for Gorka, maintaining fitness is a part of everyday life, rather than a seasonal endeavor.

Earlier this year, Gorka announced he would not be partnering with a celebrity contestant in the current season of “Strictly” due to his judging role on the Spanish version of the show. He expressed excitement about returning for the second season of “BAILANDO CON LAS ESTRELLAS” as a judge, while still participating in group numbers and supporting fellow professionals during the finals.

In addition to their exciting project, Gemma expressed her support for contestants Karen Carney and Carlos Gu, highlighting their progress throughout the competition. “She’s come from no experience whatsoever, and she’s getting better and better,” she remarked.

Viewers can catch up on “Strictly Come Dancing” via BBC iPlayer, and “This Morning” airs weekdays on ITV at 10 AM.
