The coach looks at the Monday meeting with Sevilla FC
With the international break over, RCD Espanyol get back to LaLiga action with a Monday night meeting with Sevilla FC. Los Pericos’ coach, Manolo González, was in the press room the day before the encounter, talking about the importance of returning strong.
“We’re really eager to have a good match and get back to winning ways. For me, every match is equally important, in that we want to get three more points and win at home again.”
The RCD Espanyol coach acknowledges that “every game is difficult for everyone. We’ll field an attacking side, as we have all season. We’re up against a team who press high and are very strong physically. If they have a good day, they can beat anyone, like they did against FC Barcelona. But we’ll give it our all from the first minute.”
He also assured that the team “have taken steps forward in terms of our play, but there are still things to improve. We need to keep more clean sheets and be more effective in attack. Last year, it was incredibly difficult for us to get close to the opposition area. The feeling this year is different. We’re getting there ten times more often, but winning matches is still a very difficult task. Those at the top are the only ones capable of winning three or four games in a row. The rest of us struggle much more, and that makes the league more competitive. We need to get 42 points as soon as possible so we can reach the final stretch of the season in a more comfortable position.”
When asked about the team’s Monday matches, he pointed out that “I’m defending my club, but I’m going to speak generally. If we want full stadiums, playing on a Monday at nine o’clock at night makes no sense. We have to learn from other leagues. It’s not the same playing at those hours in winter as it is in spring, nor is it the same playing in León, for example, or in Seville.”
