Croydon Council has confiscated 70 Blue Badges in the first six months of its campaign to clamp down on Blue Badge misuse across the borough.
This zero-tolerance approach supports Executive Mayor Jason Perry’s priority in targeting antisocial behaviour and protecting genuine Blue Badge holders who rely on accessible parking to lead independent lives. The work is also freeing up much needed parking spaces for those that need it.
As part of the crackdown, the Council has seized 32 cars, confiscated misused Blue Badges, issued Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) and has 20 prosecutions now progressing to court, with the first hearing scheduled for next month.
One of the seized vehicles, which was towed away, had accumulated over 60 PCNs and owed more than £11,000 in unpaid fines—with the Council’s legal team now looking to prosecute the registered keeper.
Another case involved a car displaying a stolen badge and after the vehicle was removed it was also found to have been stolen.
The Council is clear that misusing Blue Badges, whether stolen, counterfeit, cancelled, or belonging to a deceased person, is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated.
Misuse takes essential parking away from those residents with mobility challenges, making everyday life – such as visits to shops, meeting friends and family, and attending medical appointments significantly harder.

“We have taken illegal badges and cars off the street, freeing up much needed parking spaces for those who need them.
“Residents have been clear that they want tougher action, and the Council is responding. With these strong early results and positive feedback, the programme will now be expanded so that more illegal badges and unroadworthy vehicles are taken off Croydon’s streets.”

Blue Badges should only be displayed if the holder is travelling in the vehicle, or if someone is collecting the badge holder or dropping them off and needs to park.
Not all disabilities are visible. If you see someone you think may be misusing a badge, please do not confront them, instead contact the Council via Love Clean Streets.
