The final broadcast of The John Oakley Show is airing this Friday, November 28, 2025 on 640 Toronto. That closes the book on a 46-year career on the air.
John Oakley left 1010 for 640 to take over for Humble and Fred who left Mojo Radio for Mix 99.9. He began his radio career in Orillia before moving through Toronto and Montreal, hosting at CJCL, CJAD, and CFCF. In 1991 he joined CFRB 1010, and in 2003 moved to AM 640, anchoring mornings for 13 years and later hosting The John Oakley Show in the afternoons.
The Rob Ford who was elected mayor of Toronto in 2010 was made by his appearances on John Oakley’s morning show. Rob used the platform to chastise city councillors who were expensing coffee makers and the like.
This is where I’d embed my conversation with John Oakley when he appeared on Toronto Mike’d, but this recording does not exist. In 2023 I even recorded live from a 640 party at The GLB Brewpub and every on-air personality was there except for John Oakley.
