Seahawks’ chances at NFC’s top seed just disappeared after Rams’ latest win

It’s been a great year for the Seattle Seahawks thus far. At 8-3, you’d think that Seattle would be in first place in the NFC West, right? Well, no, as the best team in football, the Los Angeles Rams, can’t stop winning and are now 9-2 on the season.

The Rams blew out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football and continue to lead the division. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has been the best passer in football this year and is likely headed toward his first MVP award.

And, at this point, it’s not looking good for Seattle to earn that top seed in the NFC, and they could soon end up being one of the best Wild Card teams we’ve ever seen in the NFL’s seven-team playoff format. The Seahawks are one of the most complete teams in football, but the Rams feel unbeatable at this point.

Seahawks might not have a great shot at the No. 1 seed in the NFC at this point

Below is the remaining schedule for the Seahawks:

Week 13 vs. Minnesota Vikings
Week 14 @ Atlanta Falcons
Week 15 vs. Indianapolis Colts
Week 16 vs. Los Angeles Rams
Week 17 @ Carolina Panthers
Week 18 @ San Francisco 49ers

Two huge issues here is that the Seahawks have already lost to the Rams and 49ers, so they are behind in that regard. Secondly, they still have to play each team once more and have a date with the Indianapolis Colts in a few weeks, and they are quite good.

Here is the remaining schedule for the Rams:

Week 13 @ Carolina Panthers
Week 14 @ Arizona Cardinals
Week 15 vs. Detroit Lions
Week 16 @ Seattle Seahawks
Week 17 @ Atlanta Falcons
Week 18 vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Rams still have to play the Cardinals twice, so you figure that those two wins are guaranteed. Overall, the Rams have a more favorable schedule to close out the season than the Seahawks do. It’s going to be an uphill battle for that top NFC seed, and it’s not some crazy thought to think that Seattle is good enough to get there.

Sharing a division with the Rams is just tough at the moment, so the leaders of this team will really have to step up in the coming weeks, and I would truly not be surprised if the Seahawks had to win out to get that top seed in the conference.

While the playoffs are just about guaranteed, it could be a tough road once the postseason begins for Seattle.
