Rosalía has never attempted to treat her ADHD.
The Lux singer sat down with Kareem Rahma for SubwayTakes, where she discussed her diagnosis after the subway conductor’s intercom message diverted her attention.
“I get so distracted with sounds,” she told Rahma. “I have ADHD.”
Rahma revealed that he, too, struggles with the disorder and asked if she treats it. “I let it be,” she responded. “You don’t let things happen to you as much as when you don’t treat it.”
“You have to harness the ADHD and ride it into the sunset,” Rahma replied, to which Rosalía said, “Exactly.”
In early November, the Spanish native found herself mired in controversy just days before Lux‘s arrival on Nov. 7.
During a recent appearance on the New York Times’ Popcast, she answered a question about Bad Bunny’s decision to perform in Spanish, despite having many fans who don’t understand the language.
“I think I’m the opposite of Benito,” the 33-year-old said. “I think I care. I care so much that definitely I’m going to make the effort to sing in a language that’s not my language. It’s not my comfort zone.”
While Rosalía was speaking more to her decision to sing in 13 different languages on Lux, Bad Bunny fans took her comments as a critique, especially after he declared he doesn’t mind if non-Spanish speakers don’t understand his lyrics.
Rosalía’s remarks went viral, with one TikTok user, @rina_see_me, noting that Rosalía is a Spaniard while Benito is Latino. The TikTok user accused Rosalía of benefiting from Latin culture by featuring reggaeton, bachata, and merengue on hits like “Saoko,” “La Fama,” and “Despechá.”
Rosalía hopped in @rina_see_me’s comment section and explained that her remarks were “misinterpreted,” and that wasn’t her “intention.” The artist later deleted her comment.
