A chill is in the air as we begin the morning and there’s more cold on the way with a wet change set to appear in the coming days.

Met Eireann says that we’re looking at a mainly dry day that will have plenty of sunshine, but it will be cold. Temperatures will hit around 11C and there will be a brisk breeze.

Then tonight is when the cold really kicks in with temperatures dropping to around -1C. So if you’re heading out at all, wrap up well as there will also be a wind that is sure to put a chill in your bones.

Met Eireann says: “Today will be bright, breezy and mostly dry with good spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, easing in the evening.

“A cold and mostly dry night with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 4 degrees with light to moderate northwesterly winds.”

As for Tuesday, we can expect a very similar day. There will be more cloud, but then a change will make its way across the country.

Overnight is when we’ll notice the biggest difference of all. Rain will move in from the west, and although we may still stay dry until early morning- once the rain comes, it’s sticking around.

Temperatures will hit around 10C during the daytime tomorrow, and then drop as low as 1C overnight. Met Eireann is warning that the east will be the coldest part of Ireland.

Met Eireann continued: “A dry and bright day with some long spells of sunshine. It will turn cloudier towards nightfall. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees with a light variable or westerly breeze.

“A cloudy night with rain and drizzle in the west at first and slowly spreading eastwards across the country. Some eastern coastal area may remain dry until early morning. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 7 degrees. It will be coldest in the east, but with temperatures increasing through the night. Light to moderate southerly winds will freshen with the arrival of the rain and drizzle.”

As we head through the week, the wet conditions will settle in and continue as we head into the weekend.

Wednesday is looking quite dull, with plenty of rain. It does mean that we’ll have milder nights for a bit, though they won’t stick around too long.

Thursday will bring more of the rain, and plenty of gusty wind to go alongside it. Friday will continue the wet trend, and we could even see some hail and thunder make its way across Ireland.

Here’s what to expect:

Wednesday

A dull day with widespread rain in the morning clearing eastwards, giving way to more patchy outbreaks of drizzle and misty conditions. Relatively mild with highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees. Moderate to fresh southerly winds will veer westerly with the clearance of the rain.
