Events in East Yorkshire aim to highlight violence against women

The East Riding Speaks Up event will also bring together individuals, organisations, and services from across the region to raise awareness, share lived experiences and inspire action, the council said.

Councillor Lyn Healing, the authority’s cabinet member for communities and public protection said: “This is a fantastic event to bring the community together for this vital cause.

“I encourage residents to find out more and attend the event, – so that together we can create a world where women and girls are safe, equal, and respected.”

Mrs Squire, from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, previously said she believed children should be educated from an early age about violence against women and girls.

Elsewhere, a vigil is being held in Beverley and an online webinar on 25 November – hosted by the founders of White Ribbon UK.

There will also be a poster competition for schools across the region, as well as advice stalls and training sessions.
