With the snow falling last week and things still feeling rather chilly as we head closer to December, many of us would love nothing more than spending some time in the warm and welcoming surroundings of a country pub. And experts at The Good Food Guide have identified what they reckon just might be the ‘cosiest’ in the North East, with its idyllic location making it the ideal location for a winter walk.
When it comes to CHristmas, the first thing plenty of us in the region love to do, is head into Newcastle city centre, to have a look at Fenwick’s Window, go to the Christmas Market, have a few mulled wines in a tipi bar and even go and see a pantomime, but for others, they set their sights further afield, away from the hustle and bustle of town to the countryside, to relax and unwind for a few hours.
If it’s snowing outside, pouring down with rain or blowing a gale, there is really no better place to find shelter than a cosy pub with a roaring fire. And one that offers the perfect escape to keep warm is The Kirkstyle Inn & Sportsman’s Rest in Slaggyford, Northumberland,. The pub has just made it onto a list of Britain’s best winter walks by The Good Food Guide.
The Guide declare it to be a great place for ‘magnificent wine and fine food off the beaten track’ with its glowing appraisal of The Kirkstyle saying that the pub and B&B ‘capitalises on its rugged location’ by bringing in pedigree produce from across the Northumberland, as well as establishing itself as a much loved and valued community hub.
The Kirkstyle Inn & Sportsman’s Rest has a terrific score of 4.8 out of a possible 5 on Google, with many reviews making mention of its breath-taking surroundings, including one happ6y customer who gave it five stars and wrote: ‘The location is breathtaking and accessible to the best Northumbria has to offer.’ Also awarding a perfect score, another enthused: ‘Just a fabulous place to go. The welcome, the atmosphere, the location, the rooms and the food were fantastic.’
