Don’t miss your chance to play PS5 games on a handheld for $180

There are so many great gaming deals happening right now for Black Friday, but one that caught my attention recently is this deal on the PlayStation Portal, Sony’s newest gaming handheld.

Currently on Amazon, the PlayStation Store, and Best Buy, you can get a PlayStation Portal for $180, saving you $20 off its regular price of $200. This deal is offered in both of the PlayStation Portal’s colors: white and midnight black.

What makes the PlayStation Portal unique and cheaper than other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck or Switch 2 is that it relies solely on remote play and cloud streaming. This means the Portal doesn’t run games natively; instead, you stream them directly from your PS5 console or the cloud.

Although $20 off might not seem like a huge discount, this is actually the lowest price the PlayStation Portal has ever been. If you have a growing backlog of PS5 games you want to tackle, the PlayStation Portal is an affordable way to start making a dent in it. You can check out this deal below.

The PlayStation Portal is a way better handheld than it was at launch

It’s way more versatile now

A year ago, I probably wouldn’t have recommended the PlayStation Portal, even if it was on sale, because until recently, it could only remotely play PS5 games directly from the console, which means you had to leave your PS5 turned on all the time to use it.

However, earlier this month, Sony released an update for the handheld that enabled it to stream games from the cloud, making the PlayStation Portal way more useful than it was at launch, since you could now play games on it without having to remotely connect to your PS5 or even own a PS5.

There are tons of PS5 and PS4 games available to play via cloud streaming on the Portal, including titles in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, and select titles on the PlayStation Store that support cloud streaming, like Ghost of Yotei. However, the biggest caveat is that you need a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription to use cloud streaming on the Portal, which costs $18 a month.

Overall, if you’re a PlayStation fan wanting to play your favorite games anywhere, this PlayStation Portal deal is worth considering. With support for both cloud streaming and remote play now, it’s become a much more versatile handheld. The PlayStation Portal is on sale now for a limited time for Black Friday.
