Fresh Optus outage impacting emergency service calls

An Optus outage has left more than 14,000 customers in Victoria’s south-east unable to make calls or use mobile data, with calls to emergency services also impacted.
Optus said the ongoing issue was due to an “aerial fibre break” – thought to be vandalism related to copper theft – and there’s currently no timing for a fix.

The outage is affecting 14,096 customers across Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and the beach suburb of Frankston.
“Optus customers will only be able to call Emergency Services if they are within coverage of another mobile network or are able to call via Wi-Fi,” the telco said on its website.
It comes as Optus faces an ongoing Senate inquiry into a September Triple Zero outage linked to the deaths of two people who could not contact emergency services. The next hearing is set for December 9.
Optus has been contacted for comment.
