Colorado State is expected to hire UConn coach Jim Mora as its next coach, a source involved in the process told The Athletic.
Mora just wrapped up his fourth regular season at UConn last week, posting a second consecutive nine-win season, set for a third bowl game in four years after taking over a 1-11 program that hadn’t won nine games since 2007.
Colorado State has long been viewed as a program with a lot of potential, with some of the best facilities in the Group of 6, and now joining the new Pac-12 next season. But the Rams have had one winning season since 2018 and one 10-win season since 2003.
Mora previously went 46-30 as UCLA coach from 2012 to 2017, winning 10 games twice. The son of longtime NFL coach Jim E. Mora, the younger Mora also has a long run of NFL experience himself, including four years as a head coach and an NFC Championship Game appearance with the Atlanta Falcons in 2004. His NFL experience has helped him navigate a new college football landscape with roster salaries and front-office organization.
The California-born Mora was in the mix for multiple jobs in the western part of the country in recent weeks. He was in the process of building a new home in Idaho to move into while working as an ESPN analyst in 2021, before he took the UConn job.
