Erika Kirk has defended her warm embrace of JD Vance last month, saying her “love language is touch”.
Mrs Kirk, the widow of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, said she would have hugged “anyone” in the same way, and joked there would have been less controversy if she had touched the vice-president’s “a–”.
The pair appeared together at the University of Mississippi on Oct 29 to honour Kirk at an event run by Turning Point USA, the political organisation Mrs Kirk took over after her husband was shot dead the previous month.
At the end, Mrs Kirk placed her hands on the back of the vice-president’s head and appeared to press her cheek into his, prompting speculation about their relationship.
“My love language is touch, if you will… so I will give you a play-by-play,” Mrs Kirk told Megyn Kelly, the podcast host and former Fox News presenter, on Friday.
