Massive Waves Expected Along Lake Erie This Weekend

As Western New York braces for the first lake effect snow storm of the year, property owners along Lake Erie are also bracing for massive waves this week. As the weather front that is bringing the lake effect snow moves across the area, it will also push the water from Lake Erie from the west to the east, leading to massive waves along the shorelines in Western New York.
Waves could get as high as 11 feet by the time they reach the shorelines in Western New York.
Lake Effect Snow Warning In Place For Western New York
A Lake Effect Snow Warning is now in place for Jefferson, Lewis, Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie counties from 1 am Thursday until 1 am on Saturday morning. During that time, parts of Western New York could see snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches in the most persistent lake snows. It will also be very windy with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. This could cause white-out conditions for travelers around the area.
A Winter weather advisory is also in place for Northern Erie, Genesee, Niagara, and Orleans counties starting tonight and lasting until Thursday morning. 2-4 inches of Lake Effect snow is possible in those counties, along with very windy conditions.

Temperatures are also expected to drop as much as 20 degrees from this morning through Saturday. Today’s high will be near 55, with a high on Saturday of around 35.
