Special weather statements are in place across parts of Ontario including the southwest region.

The advisories are because of expected strong winds.

In the Windsor, Chatham and Sarnia region they could get to as high as 70 to 90 km/hr Wednesday into Thursday, according to Environment Canada.

“Local utility outages are possible,” the weather agency said in an online statement.

“High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind.”

People, and particularly motorists, are encouraged to follow local media and weather agencies for updates.

Colder temps, wind changes

In Sarnia-Lambton, officials say the winds will be heavy from the southwest — shifting to the west Wednesday night, then to the northwest later Thursday.

Across southwestern Ontario, temperatures will drop closer to the freezing mark during the daytime and evenings over the next few days, and bring a mixed bag of precipitation — including some flurries, according to Environment Canada.

Pelee Island shoreline advisory

In Windsor-Essex, the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has issued a shoreline advisory for spots along Lake Erie, including Pelee Island.

That will be in place until Thursday afternoon.

“Lake levels are lower compared to previous years, but there is a concern for some damage with direct wave impact on shoreline structures and debris being thrown,” ERCA said in a statement.

There remains some risk of flooding and accelerated nearshore erosion along the Lake Erie shoreline, including south Pelee Island as a result of increased wave activity.

Conditions are expected to dissipate by late Thursday afternoon.
