Troy Men’s Basketball Faces Saint Francis in Coconut Hoops Consolation Game

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Troy men’s basketball team is set to conclude a demanding six-game, two-week road trip on Wednesday, facing off against Saint Francis in the consolation game of the Coconut Hoops tournament at Alico Arena. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT.
Troy enters the game with a record of 4-4 after suffering a loss to Toledo in their opening game at Coconut Hoops. The Trojans struggled with their shooting, particularly from three-point range, where they hit only 5 of 28 attempts, translating to a dismal 17.9 percent. Theo Seng emerged as a key contributor in that contest, leading the team with 18 points. Meanwhile, Thomas Dowd recorded his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Dowd currently ranks eighth nationally in double-doubles and is just seven rebounds shy of reaching 500 in his collegiate career.
This matchup against Saint Francis marks the first-ever encounter between the two teams. Saint Francis is yet to secure a victory this season, sitting at 0-5 under new head coach Luke McConnell. Most recently, the Red Flash lost to Belmont, falling 94-57, which sets the stage for their game against Troy on Wednesday. Skylar Wicks has been a standout for Saint Francis, averaging 18.6 points per game and recording two double-doubles in the early part of the season.
Notably, this season signifies a transition for Saint Francis as they are in the process of moving to NCAA Division III. The Red Flash’s full reclassification is expected to take effect for the 2028-29 academic year.

Looking ahead, after the matchup with Saint Francis, Troy will return home to face West Georgia on Monday, December 1, with tip-off set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Troy is under the leadership of head coach Scott Cross, now in his seventh season with a record of 107-91. The Trojans have seen consistent success over recent years, winning over 20 games each season for the last four years, including a strong finish last season with a 23-11 record.
As the Trojans look to secure their second win of the road trip, they are determined to avoid losing three consecutive games, something they have not done since the beginning of February during the previous season. The team’s scoring has faced challenges this year due to the loss of over 60 percent of last season’s scoring output. Nonetheless, a collective effort has emerged, with Cooper Campbell leading the way with an average of 17.4 points per game and Dowd contributing 15.6 points along with a conference-leading 11.1 rebounds per contest.
The upcoming game against Saint Francis promises to be pivotal for Troy as they aim to rebound and regain momentum at the outset of the season.
