Netherlands: EBS Orders 73 BYD Electric Buses in Zeeland

EBS has ordered 73 BYD electric buses to operate in Zeeland, the Netherlands, from December 2026.
The order includes 64 electric 12-metre buses and 9 electric 15-metre buses, with the first units scheduled for delivery in summer 2026.
The fleet will run under the brand REIZEN DOOR ZEELAND, which EBS will use for its public transport services in the province.

The design of the new vehicles was shaped by feedback from passengers, drivers, and stakeholder groups.
The buses will be fitted with seats in purple upholstery, and passengers will have access to free Wi-Fi, along with USB-C charging points at every seat.
In collaboration with accessibility organisations, EBS has also incorporated features such as strong colour contrasts on grab rails and stop buttons, as well as a wheelchair space positioned opposite the rear door.
Jan Kees Korteweg, COO of EBS said:
This order is an important step towards sustainable and clean public transport. BYD’s buses are perfectly in line with our ambition to offer passengers greater comfort, peace and ease of use. Together, we are ensuring that Zeeland’s buses are not only emission-free, but also truly suited to today’s Zeeland passengers.
EBS already operates a large number of electric buses across its Dutch concessions. The company operates more than 500 electric vehicles in the Haaglanden, IJssel-Vecht, Zaanstreek-Waterland and Voorne-Putten & Rozenburg concessions. In September 2025, 43 BYD electric buses entered service in the Haaglanden-Streek concession.
The addition of the Zeeland fleet further increases the company’s electric footprint. In the coming months, EBS will work with the province, municipalities and partners on preparations for depot facilities, including charging infrastructure.
