Sydney flights face major delays as weather forces runway switch

Several domestic flights into Sydney and Melbourne have been delayed or cancelled this morning, with weather conditions causing significant disruptions across the network.

According to FlightAware data, 19 flights scheduled to arrive in Sydney and 14 into Melbourne have been cancelled in the past 24 hours. As of publication, arrivals into Sydney are experiencing an average delay of 51 minutes.

Some services have faced far longer waits. A Wagga Wagga–Sydney flight was pushed back more than four hours, with its scheduled 7:40am arrival now due at 11:55am. In Canberra, a Qantas service was delayed from 9:50am to 11:45am.

Most afternoon arrivals into Sydney are also expected to be delayed.

A Sydney Airport spokesperson said weather had forced Airservices Australia to shift arriving and departing aircraft to the airport’s east–west runway, which “may cause some delays throughout the day”.

Passengers are advised to check with their airline for the latest flight information.
