Kherson’s Korabel District Faces Power Outages Amid Ongoing Attacks

In one of Kherson’s most dangerous neighborhoods – Korabel (Island) – about 200 people are currently living there. Their main worry is restoring electricity supply, but ongoing shelling hampers repairs to severely damaged equipment.

This was reported in a post by Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.

“Korabel is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Kherson. Explosions are heard constantly here, and hostile drones hover in the sky. Yet despite the risks, about two hundred people still live in Korabel.”

The Situation and the Authorities’ Actions

According to Prokudin, he, together with the head of the Kherson City Military Administration Yaroslav Shanko, met with the residents of Korabel to openly discuss the current situation.

The explanations noted that the main concern is restoring electricity supply due to serious damage at facilities. Sending specialists and equipment there would carry an increased risk of a direct strike.

“We spoke with people about possible ways to restore light. The task is difficult, but we will do everything in our power. At the same time, we need understanding and support from those who remain in the neighborhood.”

– Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration

Ahead of winter, the situation is also complicated by the lack of gas supply. Because of constant attacks, restoring gas delivery is currently impossible. During the meeting with residents, they discussed providing fuel, generators, and everything needed to get through the winter.

The discussion also covered humanitarian aid, medicines, extending water supply hours, and other requests voiced by residents.

According to previously published data, the heating season in the Island neighborhood will not begin due to damaged utilities, which cannot be restored given the security situation. There is also no stable electricity or gas supply there; water is delivered by meters.

In sum, Korabel residents remain dependent on humanitarian aid and mobile solutions to survive in wartime conditions and the winter.
