Penguins to Make Series of Transactions, Will Activate Jarry, Koivunen

Tristan Jarry will start in goal on Wednesday for the Pittsburgh Penguins when they host the Buffalo Sabres, and winger Ville Koivunen will return, as well.

Arturs Silovs will back up Jarry, all per coach Dan Muse.

The injured reserve activations will also necessarily create corresponding transactions on Wednesday afternoon. The Penguins began the moves on Tuesday by re-assigning Sam Poulin to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Poulin was not with the NHL club long enough to need waivers to be re-assigned. A player must play in 10 or more games, or be on the roster for at least 30 days to need waivers to be re-assigned. Poulin only played in two games and spent one week with the team.

The other demotion will almost certainly be goalie Sergei Murashov, who does not need to clear waivers to be sent back to WBS.

While Muse did not specify Murashov by name, he alluded to a corresponding move due to Jarry’s activation, which will occur on Wednesday afternoon. Murashov would otherwise be the third goalie and does not need to clear waivers.

Jarry had a .911 save percentage in seven games before suffering a lower-body injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 3.

Bryan Rust, who missed the last two days of practice, will play Wednesday.
