Arne Slot equals Brendan Rodgers’ unwanted record at Liverpool

Arne Slot has equalled an unwanted record at Liverpool set by former boss Brendan Rodgers after yet another humiliating defeat.
The Premier League champions are surrendering their title bid with a whimper after falling 11 points behind Arsenal and dropping into the bottom half of the table.
A 3-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest emphasised the pressures on Slot, who becomes the second favourite to become the next manager to lose his job.
With Liverpool’s most influential names such as Mo Salah, Alexander Isak and Virgil van Dijk all struggling, it’s difficult to see how Slot can turn their fortunes around.
Arne Slot matches Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool record
Liverpool’s six defeats in their opening 12 matches has matched Rodgers’ record set during the 2014/15 campaign.
After guiding the Reds to second in the season prior, Rodgers came under intense pressure when he won just four and drew two of his opening 12 matches.
That included a run of three consecutive defeats, which left them on just 14 points.
Slot’s Liverpool have picked up 18 points this season with six wins, but their six defeats already eclipse the four they picked up in the entirety of last campaign.
After 12 games, Rodgers was able to turn around Liverpool’s fortunes. The board stuck with the Northern Irishman, and they went on a run of one defeat in 17 league games.
That included 12 victories and a run of five consecutive wins before eventually being sacked at the beginning of the next season.
Slot may need a similar run of form if he’s to retain his place as Liverpool manager for the entirety of the campaign.
The Dutchman may draw comparisons to Jurgen Klopp’s tenure in the 2022/23 season, where they picked up 16 points from their opening 12 matches.
Klopp guided Liverpool to four victories and four defeats before eventually ending the campaign in fifth.
4 – Liverpool are just the fourth side to start a season as defending champions in the Premier League with 6+ defeats in their first 12 games, after Blackburn Rovers in 1995-96 (6), Chelsea in 2015-16 (7), and Leicester City in 2016-17 (6). Crumbling. pic.twitter.com/ZgUn7u96k6

Liverpool’s bad form started last season
Liverpool’s emphatic title victory may have papered over the cracks when dissecting their form towards the end of last season.
In March, the Reds crashed out of the Champions League to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.
Since then, they’ve played 30 games and have won 13 of them, losing 14. Slot has a 43% win percentage, which is only marginally higher than Roy Hodgson’s (41.94).
Hodgson lasted 31 games in charge before being replaced by Kenny Dalglish.
They’ve also lost six of their last seven matches, while Saturday was the first time Liverpool have faced successive 3-0 defeats since 1965.
Liverpool hosts PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday before three winnable league contests at West Ham, at home to Sunderland and away at Leeds.
