LOS ANGELES — LA Clippers shooting guard Kris Dunn was ejected in Tuesday night’s NBA Cup matchup with the Lakers after being assessed two technical fouls in the fourth quarter. The Lakers went on to win the game, 135-118, their fifth in a row.
After Dunn assisted an Ivica Zubac field goal with 3:37 left to play, Dunn contacted Luka Dončić, who fell to the ground. An aggrieved Dončić got up to approach an annoyed Dunn, and Dunn responded by pushing the basketball into Dončić’s chest, igniting an altercation. Lakers center Jaxson Hayes came over and gave Dunn a shove. Hayes was given a technical foul, and Dunn was ejected after a hostile act review.
Dunn finished the game with a season-high 19 points. The Clippers loss dropped them to 5-13, while the Lakers improved to 13-4. Dončić finished with 43 points, his fifth 40-point game of the season after managing four 40-point games all of last season.
“While I was waiting for the rebound when I got a cheap shot in my back, so I’m not going to just stand [for that]. I ain’t afraid of nobody. I’m not just going to stand there and let it go,” Dončić said after the game.
“The ref was right there. I don’t understand how he couldn’t call a foul on that one, but that’s what the game is about. Sometimes it’s going to get physical, there’s a lot of trash talking. I live for that. So, I love it.”
