Another case of extorting money by impersonating Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has been revealed.
According to foreign media such as the Daily Mail, Swiss female senior citizen ‘Patricia’ was deceived by an online fraudster impersonating Brad Pitt and suffered about 90,000 pounds (about 170 million won).
After following Brad Pitt’s Instagram account in May last year, the woman was first contacted by a person claiming to be his manager. A man named the manager asked if he could have a direct conversation with Brad Pitt, and Patricia replied “Yes”.
Shortly after, a message came calling himself Brad Pitt, and in several conversations, he even confessed his love.
The crook also sent a message saying “Please keep our romance a secret” and “My love, you are my everything now and forever”.
Patricia firmly believed him to be a real Brad Pitt and couldn’t hide her joy at the fact that she had become the lover of a famous actor.
Meanwhile, the scammer demanded money, saying he needed $50,000 (about 73 million won) for the actual meeting.
Patricia initially refused, but eventually transferred the money several times.
The con artist then sent a message and flowers saying, `I love you, let’s be together for life.’
In the end, Patricia waited alone for three weeks at a hotel he mentioned in LA, USA, but never met.
After returning home in disappointment, she realized she had been deceived and reported it to the police only after encountering a similar case of damage in France. She suffered indescribable shame and mental damage, having clung onto non-existent relationships for nearly a year” he vented.
Earlier this year, Anne, a French woman in her 50s, was deceived by the same method and lost 830,000 euros (about 1.4 billion won).
At the time, the fraudster demanded money, saying he was being treated for kidney cancer using fake SNS accounts and AI-generated images. He even continued the trick by sending a picture of himself lying in the hospital bed with the words ‘Ann, I love you’. Anne finally realized it was a scam when she saw a picture of the actor’s real lover.
