Western Australia’s lucrative mining and agriculture sectors will be jeopardised by any overhaul to its GST distribution, according to west coast industry leaders who warned the controversial deal is even integral to the state’s AUKUS defence agreement.
Business heavyweights gathered in Perth on Wednesday to meet with Premier Roger Cook and Treasurer Rita Saffioti to bed down the state’s demands for future GST distribution before the Productivity Commission embarks on a review of the tax next year.
