As user information using OpenAI’s Application Programming Interface (API) was leaked, OpenAI issued a spam mail warning impersonating itself.
OpenAI announced on the 26th (local time) that some API user data was leaked due to a security accident at data analysis company MixPanel. This included the name, email address, location, ID, etc. associated with the API account.
OpenAI explained, “Chat content, usage data, passwords, API keys, authentication information, payment information, and identification were not leaked or exposed,” adding, “There was no impact on users of ChatGPT and other products.”
OpenAI added, “We have excluded Mix0Spanel from our service and are informing users whose information has been leaked.”
In particular, he urged people to pay attention to unexpected emails or messages as the leaked information can be abused for phishing targeting users.
OpenAI also emphasized, “We do not request passwords, API keys, or authentication codes through email, text, or chat,” adding, “Make sure to check whether the message claimed to have been sent by OpenAI has been sent from the official OpenAI domain.”
