Michael Caine movie classic’s uncut original version now available on streaming

Michael Caine is well known for his crime thrillers and historical epics, but one of his best-loved films is a musical.

Back in 1992, the double Oscar-winner starred as Scrooge in The Muppet Christmas Carol, which is now streaming on Disney+.

But what some fans might not be aware of is that this is a shorter cut. To see the full-length version of the movie, you have to go to the Extras section when searching for the film.

There you’ll find the uncut original featuring the newly restored scene with the song When Love Is Gone.

The track is sung by Belle, upset that the young Ebenezer’s love for her has been replaced by his love of money.

Upon The Muppet Christmas Carol’s American theatrical release, then-Walt Disney Studios chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg had the song cut. The reason was that he thought it would be too mature for children, so it was played as an end credits scene instead. The film’s director Brian Henson (the son of Jim Henson) objected to this, as the final song in the movie is When Love Is Found, with Scrooge having been redeemed.

Over the years, the full uncut version of the film appeared occasionally on different versions of home release, but is now hidden in the extras on Disney+ for fans to enjoy. It has been there since 2022, after Disney archivists found the long-lost film negative.
