Chilly stretch of weather before rain returns to Southern New England

I hope those Black Friday deals are worth it because it’s going to be chilly! Overnight lows bottom out in the 20s for most communities, but when you factor in the wind, it’ll feel more like the upper 10s and low 20s!

Temperatures eventually warm into the low 40s by the afternoon, but a tight pressure gradient over the northeast leads to gusty west/northwest winds! Wind chill values in the 30s during the warmest part of the day.

Don’t be shocked if you see a couple of snowflakes after sunset north and west of Providence. The gusty winds may produce lake-effect snow bands stretching from Lake Ontario to Southern New England.

High pressure begins to build in from the west on Saturday, but it’ll be too lathagic to prevent another day of breezy weather. Eventually, winds diminish Saturday night, helping lead to a cold start on Sunday!

Southern New Englanders wake up to overcast skies on Sunday ahead of the region’s next weathermaker. The forecast stays dry until after 2 PM, when a warm front lifts through the area, opening the door to widespread rain showers. This precipitation persists through much of the overnight before the trailing cold front sweeps across New England, bringing an end to the rain.

Potential storm on Tuesday, but lots of details to be ironed out. (WJAR)

A brief wave of high pressure will be with Southern New England on Monday, but that is quickly pushed out to sea by our next storm system. Models continue to suggest a coastal low-pressure system forming on Tuesday near the 70/40 “benchmark.” This storm track is favorable for producing snow across Southern New England. However, the storm is still five days away, and much can change. Don’t fall for any hype that might appear on social media. A few more days are needed for the forecast to become clearer.

Thanks for reading! Happy Thanksgiving!
