A film touted as Liam Neeson’s ‘best action thriller since Taken’ is making waves on Netflix more than a decade after its initial release.
Non-Stop, which first graced cinemas in 2014, is currently one of the most viewed titles among UK subscribers.
At present, it ranks as the sixth most watched film, nestled between the new animated release In Your Dreams and K-Pop Demon Hunters.
The plot centres around world-weary U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks, portrayed by Liam Neeson, who has long lost his enthusiasm for his job.
Despite the potential risk to lives during each flight, he views his role as no more significant than a mundane desk job.
However, an ordinary day at work turns into a high-stakes crisis during a flight to London. Marks receives a series of text messages demanding that he instruct the airline to transfer $150 million into an offshore account, or a passenger will die every 20 minutes.
Neeson shares the screen with a stellar cast, including Julianne Moore, Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, House of Cards actor Corey Stoll and True Detective star Scoot McNairy, reports the Mirror.
While the film may not have garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews upon its debut, many critics have since revisited the title with a more favourable perspective.
Many regard it as amongst Neeson’s finest work since the surprise success of Taken, which transformed the Irish actor into an action hero.
Screen Rant declared that “Non-Stop was the star’s best action thriller and potential replacement since Taken.”
They continued: “This could have been Neeson’s Die Hard franchise.” Despite this, no follow-up films were ever made.
Its strong showing on Netflix suggests it retains considerable appeal. One viewer, offering their assessment of the film, remarked: “An absolutely excellent film. The suspense and tension I felt literally had me sweating all over the first time I watched this. The final twist is beautifully-written and I wish I could watch it for the first time all over again.”
Another commented: “Liam Neeson does it again. A great suspense thriller that keeps you guessing the whole movie. Action-packed, suspenseful, and fast-paced, this movie is a great film for all movie lovers! Totally awesome!”.
Whilst a third observed: “As good as Die Hard. Excellent film with Liam Neeson. Thrilling, eventful and not over the top. Very suspenseful and emotional.”
