Chicago weather forecast: Several inches of snow expected Saturday | Winter Storm Watch to go into effect this weekend

A winter storm is forecast to drop several inches of snow across the Chicago area this weekend.
Thursday is forecast to be cold and blustery with Friday also being cold and dry.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, which is set to go into effect for the Chicago area at 3 a.m. Saturday and remain in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday.
ABC7 Accuweather Meteorologist Jaisol Martinez says the first snow is expected to move into the area around 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. Saturday. The heaviest snow forecast to fall during the afternoon and early evening.
Winter storm warnings across the country: snow and ice cause travel chaos.
There is potential for parts of the area to see a switch over from snow to rain Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Areas in and around Chicago could see five to eight inches of snow while areas to north and west of the city could see more than eight inches of snow. Areas to the far south and parts of Indiana could see three to five inches of snow.
After the snow moves out, cold will remain Sunday, with overnight lows in single digits.
