Utah Mammoth forward Clayton Keller will join his team on the ice against the Dallas Stars one day after his father, Bryan, died unexpectedly in his sleep.
Mammoth head coach André Tourigny spoke to the media “with a heavy heart” Friday afternoon after learning of the news Thursday.
“Clayton wants to play and be with the team,” Tourigny said. “We want to express our condolences to the family, Clayton, his mom, his brother. It’s a tough time for the family, and we will support him in any way we can. We and the family ask everyone to respect their privacy.”
Keller has eight goals and 21 points in 24 games with the Mammoth in his 10th NHL season. The 27-year-old winger was drafted No. 7 in 2016 by the then-Arizona Coyotes, the only franchise he’s ever played with. He has 204 goals and 529 points in 625 career games.
The Mammoth enter Friday’s game fourth in the Central Division with a 12-9-3 record.
