Metrobus Running this Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

For the first time in decades, Metrobus will be offering limited service on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.

The service, which will operate between noon and 8 p.m. on those days, is being offered on-demand – meaning people need to book their rides in advance.

Metrobus says the number of rides will be limited, and regular fixed routes will not be operating on those days.

General manager Judy Powell says they will be using two of their on demand buses, which can hold 18 people.

She says ridership has grown by more than 40 per cent in the last few years, and with more people relying on public transit they think the holidays is a good time to pilot the service.

Whether they expand the service beyond the pilot, however, remains to be seen.

She says it is still very early, and they will see what the demand is like in terms of how they move forward.

Bookings are being accepted between December 10th and the 22nd via the Metrobus On Demand app or by calling them directly at 709-722-9400.
