Pacers’ Andrew Nembhard questionable with quad contusion vs. Wizards

INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers point guard Andrew Nembhard is back on the injury report on for Friday’s game against the Wizards, but apparently with a less serious injury than the left shoulder strain that cost him seven games at the start of the season.

Nembhard is listed as questionable on the injury report with a right quad contusion. It’s not immediately clear when the injury was suffered as Nembhard played more than 35 minutes in Wednesday’s loss to the Raptors.

Nembhard is averaging 17.5 points and 6.2 assists per game this season operating as the starting point guard with All-Star Tyrese Haliburton out for the season with an Achilles tendon tear. Nembhard scored in double figures in nine straight games before scoring nine in Wednesday’s game on 2 of 10 shooting.

If Nembhard is out, the Pacers would likely be forced to start T.J. McConnell, who returned from a hamstring strain two weeks ago. They recently waived Monte Morris to keep forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl for depth at the forward spots.

The Pacers still have six players listed as out in Haliburton, forwards Obi Toppin, Aaron Nesmith and Johnny Furphy and guards Quenton Jackson and Kam Jones. Toppin is out until Feb. 1. Nesmith, Furphy, Jackson and Jones are expected to miss two weeks or more.

Wizards rookie forward Tre Johnson (hip flexor strain) and sharpshooter Corey Kispert (right thumb distal phalanx fracture) are listed as out. Guard Kyshawn George is questionable with an illness.
