The WAFL Eagles have strengthened their list with Ash Johnson, Archie Watt and Callum Jamieson signing on for the 2026 season.

Dynamic forward Johnson has signed a two-year contract through to the end of 2027 and has been training with the AFL group since arriving in early November.

He joins the Eagles after five seasons with Collingwood, where he played 27 AFL games and 35 VFL matches following his selection in the 2021 Rookie Draft.

Originally from Halls Creek, Johnson’s football journey has taken him across Australia. After early stints with Claremont Colts and Halls Creek Hawks, he played in country Victoria before moving to South Australia, where he starred for Scotch Old Collegians in 2018, kicking 41 goals and helping secure a premiership despite breaking his arm in the Grand Final.

He later joined Sturt in the SANFL, making his debut in 2020 before being drafted to Collingwood.

Johnson’s athleticism and versatility will be a valuable asset as the WAFL Eagles prepare for the new season.

Joining Johnson is promising young talent Archie Watt, who began training with the AFL group during the pre-Christmas block and will transition to the WAFL program in the new year.

Watt arrives from Kyabram in Victoria after a standout 2025 season in the Goulburn Valley League, where he played 19 senior games, kicked 30 goals, and delivered a pivotal Grand Final performance with 24 disposals, seven inside 50s, six clearances, and five tackles to help secure the premiership.

“Archie displays great balance in his football, he reads the game well and has a hard edge with a thirst for the contest,” Head of WAFL Football Steve Trewhella said.

“We are excited to see what Archie can do in the WAFL in 2026.”

Before his breakout year, Watt represented the Bendigo Pioneers and Oakleigh Chargers in the Coates Talent League and claimed the Fairest and Best Award at Xavier College in 2024.

The WAFL Eagles will also welcome back Callum Jamieson, who returns to the blue-and-gold after six seasons in the AFL program.

Drafted at pick 49 in 2019 from Claremont, Jamieson represented West Coast in 17 AFL games and featured in 36 WAFL matches across multiple roles, including ruck and key defence.

At 25, Jamieson brings experience, versatility, and leadership to the WAFL squad for 2026.

“Having ‘Jammo’ commit to the club after being delisted speaks volumes of his character,” WAFL Coach Kyal Horsley said.

“He’s passionate about helping the club climb back up the ladder and will play a lead role in the development of our program.”

Fans can look forward to seeing the new recruits in action as the team prepares for an exciting year ahead.
